Getting Free Tint from my car dealership. Is it sufficient?

admin068377

You have bought a car and the dealership or the salesman provides a set of tint with your car to you as part of the package.

Now you might be wondering, is it sufficient? Are they giving me a decent tint? Should I top up a little bit of money to upgrade them to a better tint?

This article is all you need to understand about free tints.

There’s no free lunch in the world. A lot of times, something that is given to you isn't really “free”.

To understand this better, there are a few types of situations here. Before we get into it, you have to understand what a car dealership or a salesman’s strategy is.

For some of them, they use free tint as a package to provide more for their customers in order to stand out from the rest.

This is a very common strategy around, so most salesman will cover the cost of the tint they provide to you out of their own pockets.

Malaysian customers tend to ask for free gifts on top of discounts so this is the result of natural supply and demand.

However, do take note that since the cost of the tint comes out from the salesman’s pockets themselves, they usually opt for a cheaper quality of tint available.

Since most of the people don’t have a clear understanding of tint quality and grades available, this has been the culture for the past couple of decades.

In other situations, they are not considered so much as free but are still counted as a bundled package to customers to add on a certain amount of money to get in a few accessories including tinting as well.

In these situations, sometimes customers are allowed to pick and choose the grades and quality of the tint to be installed.

The cost of the tinting is then usually paid by the customer in this case from the additional amount they charge.

Depending on the dealership, some of these deals can be attractive and hassle free as well.

There is no right or wrong strategy here to get your tint.

Customers may opt to study and research on their own and go for the installation of tint themselves elsewhere or even know a couple of trustworthy shops that they enjoy their services with in the past, without being bound by the car dealership’s recommendations.

Do take note that car dealerships do not have the right to force you to take their tint packages.

There were some cases of dealerships forcing their customers to purchase from them or they will void the warranty of the car but these are unethical and should be reported to authorities.

For those who would prefer to get everything done through the car dealership or salesman is fine as well. However, do remember to check the quality of the tint to be installed.

We personally do not recommend getting a poor tint quality, as tinting is a long term protection for you and your car.

What we do is we suggest getting an upgrade to allow you to get a decent tint quality just by topping up a little.
