If you own a car that has an old tint, and the old tint is now not effective anymore, or the colour has faded, or maybe even bubbles and peels are forming on your old tint, it is time to get your old tint replaced.
However, is replacing the old tint the same as installing a new tint? Is there anything that you need to take note of?
Basically, replacing an old tint is generally the same as installing a new tint, with an additional step of removing the existing tint and cleaning it before installing a new one.
Most of the tinting shops out there offer the removal and cleaning services for you, some for free if you get the new tints installed with them too.
The process of removing and cleaning takes some time, so expect it to take longer than usual.

Removing an old tint is not an easy task. They have to peel off the existing tint carefully to avoid damaging or scratching your windows.
The adhesives residue will still remain on the windows, so they will have to use a special chemical cleaning tool to remove it.
After removing the adhesives, they will have to carefully scrape off the remaining dirt or adhesives with a blade to ensure it is clean for installation of new tint.
Sounds complicated? There’s more. The hardest window to remove a tint is the rear windscreen.
This is because removing the rear windscreen tint requires a lot of skill and time to avoid breaking the heater/demister lines at the rear windscreen.
Often, it is not a 100% guaranteed safe way with no damage. There will always be a risk that it may damage the tint depending on the existing tint’s quality and condition.
You will have to take note of the potential risk and if that happens, at times, only a few of the lines will be affected, and at times all of them are affected and you may have to replace the entire windscreen to get the heater lines running again.
Besides, if your old tint requires a replacement, that would mean the old tint’s quality is not as great.
With technological innovation, the good quality tints are now widely available and can last longer than previous ones.
