Why Can’t My SmartTag Go Through?

admin068377

We are all very familiar with the scenario of having a glitch when passing through the SmartTAG lane where the device is not detected by the toll system.

There are a few factors that cause this to happen and one of it is the weak signal of the SmartTAG device.

This might mean that your SmartTAG needs a replacement of batteries.

It could also be the opposite where the signal receiver at the toll is weak hence not detecting your SmartTAG.

Another possible reason would be that your car front window has a pre-installed UV-ray tint that might be stopping you from having a smooth transition at the toll.

The SmartTAG device and the toll system uses infrared light technology to read the signals.

With tint films that block infrared and ultraviolet rays, it is natural that the SmartTAG device that runs on infrared cannot be detected unless you wind down your window and put your hand out with the device to pass through the SmartTAG lane.

As we all know, car window tints have components that block out infrared light hence affecting the signal exchange between the SmartTAG and the toll system.

That does not mean that you should refrain from installing a car window tint that can protect the upholsteries and passengers in your car.

Usually, a responsible tinting shop will inform you about the possibility of this issue and offer you a suggestion.

That is to have the section around the back mirror cut off to allow the infrared connection to occur between the SmartTAG device and the toll barrier system for a seamless experience.

So don’t be afraid to ask your car window tint installers on some of the ways that can be done to ensure you have a smooth journey in your car every day.
