Visual light transmission (VLT) is the amount of visible light that passes through your car windows.
The VLT of window tint is important in determining how much heat penetrates.
VLT General Rule of Thumb: The lower the VLT, the darker the film
So what does the percentage actually mean?
In simple terms, the VLT is the percentage of light that the window tint allows to pass through.
So a 5% VLT window tint is very dark as it only lets through 5% of visible light, and a 80% window tint is very light as it lets through 80% of visible light.
Reminder: VLT only refers to visual light, it does not relate to heat and ultraviolet rejection. The only thing it relates is total solar energy rejection.
